How to use this checklist

Go through each area and tick every task you still do by hand. The estimate on the right adds up typical time spent on each task by small business owners. Your real numbers may be higher or lower, so treat it as a starting point.

What to do with your score

  • Under 5 hours: you're in good shape. Automate the one task you dislike most.
  • 5 to 15 hours: start with anything under "Leads & sales" or "Money & admin". Those pay back fastest.
  • Over 15 hours: you're running two jobs. Pick the top three tasks and automate one per week.
